Sports Photography

In the past year my interest in sports photography has peaked. I several years ago i was fortunate enough to be able to have pit access at the Indy 500. Shooting the cars and the behind the scenes action was a wonderful experience. However that day was just too much to make the drive, shoot the race and drive home. So when started working at the University of Saint Francis I learned that I had free access to all the home sporting events. So I talked to a few people around campus and was able to secure a sideline pass to all the games.

This fall I attended most of the football games, and was able to get some amazing shots. But recently I attended a mens and women’s basketball games and shot from the end of the court right under the hoop. Talk about all access! The nice thing was that I shared my images with the athletic department and they not only used one of the images for the website story, but used a different one for the men’s basketball game program later that week.

So not that I’m ready to quit my day job and travel with a sports team, but I just wanted to share where else you might be able to see my work.

Fritz extended pictures

The Fritz family wanted some extended family pictures after their session last year. We went out to the beautiful University of Saint Francis campus to take these portraits. We brought Austin thinking that the boys might keep each other entertained, but that might have backfired as they were a bit too distracted most of the morning. I think that they turned out pretty amazing considering Ryan was in most of them . Here are a small sample of the day.

Riecke 1 Year

A few weeks ago I was able to head out in the heat to Foster park with the Riecke family to take their daughter’s 1 year pictures. Where does the time go? She was just learning how to stand and walk, so we tried to use everything we could to convince her to stand on her own. We had gotten her a string of pearls and a cute pink dress (which her dad hated), but I’m sure he will admit it was really cute.

Thank you Riecke family for letting me take these pictures. I hope you enjoyed them and I can’t wait to take her pictures again when I get to see her next time.

Kathryn – Senior Pictures

Kathryn is a cheerful senior, it is a good thing we are only half way through taking her pictures. So far we have visited Foster Park, the tulips were in full bloom, and added some wonderful color to Kathryn’s portraits. Then we stopped by the Wells Street bridge. I only have 1 image on hand, it is from the stone wall in Foster Park, but there will be an update with many more pictures once we make it to the horse stables!

Newborn Nick

Baby Nick was just 4 days old when we went down to Cincinnati to take his first portraits. He was one of the calmest newborns I have had the pleasure to be around. I had purchased a newborn hat for these pictures. You can see it in some of these pictures, it was a gray newsboy hat and it came with a diaper cover. They were small enough to fit in my camera bag!

We ended up taking these on their leather couch in their living room. The nice thing about newborn babies is they are small enough that you can take their portraits anywhere and the background is completely irrelevant.

I just want to thank Taunja for bringing him home a day early so we could take these portraits. And for being a good sport and helping me keep baby Nick calm.

Heller Family

We have taken family portraits for the Heller family a few times already and they are working on scheduling their next one in the spring. The first time was mostly for the kids, we had a blast at Lakeside park. I had them climb in a tree for one picture, and then convinced them to get in the pools by the end of the shoot!

The second time we met their extended family at the Grand Wayne Center in Fort Wayne. The entire family was going to purchase a gallery wrapped canvas for their grandparents for Christmas. Amongst the chaos of the Grand Wayne we were able to use one of the hallways to capture these great family portraits.

They are a great family to work with and always willing to try anything!

The Riecke family has had me do their daughter’s pictures a few times now. I can’t believe how fast she is growing, the first time we were able to see her she was the smallest baby I had the privilege of photographing. Now she is rolling over, holding her head up, and obviously chewing on her fingers. My son is now just over 2 years old and it seems like so long ago he was just making these milestones. I can’t wait for her to be running around their house and creating chaos!

Since my website died and took my old posts with it, I wanted to share some of the best pictures from the last few sessions. Thank you guys for letting me be part of your family’s lives!
